Bermuda Students Earn Math Awards In Toronto
Bermuda students represented the island at the Spirit of Math Global Round in Toronto, earning 16 awards while competing alongside students from around the world.
A spokesperson said, “Bermuda students recently represented the island at the Spirit of Math Global Round in Toronto, Canada, on August 13, 2026, joining students from around the world for a celebration of mathematics, problem-solving and teamwork.
“Planet Math, the official Spirit of Math partner in Bermuda, supported the students’ participation and is actively working toward bringing the Spirit of Math program to Bermuda, with promising prospects for its introduction to the island. The enthusiasm demonstrated by students, families and the wider community has reinforced the strong potential for mathematics enrichment in Bermuda.
“A total of 14 Bermuda students from Grades 2 through 8 competed in three rounds – the Individual, Group and Arcade Rounds, earning:
- 1 Gold Award
- 5 Silver Awards
- 1 Bronze Award
- 9 Merit Awards
“Beyond the competition, the Global Round gave students the opportunity to meet young mathematicians from around the world, experience an international academic environment and celebrate their passion for mathematics.
A Proud Moment for Bermuda
“The students’ achievements are particularly encouraging as Spirit of Math does not currently have an established program in Bermuda. Their participation and success demonstrate the enthusiasm and potential that exists locally for high-quality mathematics enrichment opportunities.”
Kimberly Langen, Chief Executive and Founder of Spirit of Math, said: “The Spirit of Math Global Competition brings together some of the brightest young minds from around the world to challenge themselves, celebrate achievement, and discover their potential. While this year’s Global Round was proudly hosted in Toronto, Canada, we are deeply grateful for the support of our Bermuda partners, whose commitment to excellence helps inspire students to reach new heights in mathematics and learning.”
Kevin Warner, Co-founder of Planet Math, said: “We could not be more proud of these incredible young thinkers. Mathematics is so much more than equations on a page; it is a universal language that builds logical reasoning, resilience, and creative thinking. As we work to expand higher-level math enrichment right here in Bermuda, these 14 students have shown us that our island’s future in STEM is infinitely bright.”
Sergio Pitcher, Co-founder of Planet Math, said: “The Spirit of Math Global Round was absolutely amazing. Watching our young people take on that challenge and come away with gold, silver and bronze medals was incredible, and we’re extremely proud of all 14 of our participants. This was our first Global Round, and it’s only the beginning. We’re already looking forward to another local round in February and returning to the Global Round in 2027 with even more students representing Bermuda.”
The spokesperson said, “Planet Math hopes the students’ experience in Toronto will generate greater awareness and interest in mathematics enrichment in Bermuda and encourage families, educators and the wider community to support opportunities that nurture students’ mathematical potential.
“Planet Math extends its sincere gratitude to Sean McNulty for sponsoring five of our students to participate in the Global Round. Their generous support helped make this international opportunity possible, allowing students to challenge themselves, represent Bermuda and experience mathematics on a global stage.
“Planet Math congratulates all 14 students and their families for their dedication, hard work and support throughout this journey.
“Even without a permanent building and in the face of significant adversity, we refuse to let challenges hold us back. Our focus remains firmly on creating impactful, life-changing opportunities for Bermuda’s youth—like competing on the international stage—and proving that true commitment to our community isn’t defined by a physical space, but by the lasting difference we make in young lives.”

Congrats to all the young mathematicians! This was truly an amazing event and we are very proud of all the participants!
