Coordinate Immediate, Whole-of-Govt Response
An “urgent meeting” with representatives from Transport, National Security, the Road Safety Council, and the police has been called to “review the situation and coordinate an immediate, whole-of-government response” in light of “the recent increase in serious road traffic collisions.”
A Government spokesperson said, “The Government joins the community in expressing its deep concern regarding the recent increase in serious road traffic collisions.
“We fully appreciate the anxiety and unease across our community. And our thoughts remain with all individuals and families affected by these recent incidents.
“The Government can confirm that today, the Minister of Transport and Minister of National Security have called an urgent meeting with representatives from Transport, National Security, the Road Safety Council, and the Bermuda Police Service to review the situation and coordinate an immediate, whole-of-government response.
“Road safety is a shared responsibility, and we are committed to working together to strengthen enforcement, enhance public awareness, and identify additional measures to help reduce collisions and save lives.
“As this work progresses, the Government will provide further updates.”

here’s what needs to happen: we need more police patrolling around our roads. I drive up and down this country and I see FAR more dangerous drivers than I do police patrols. dare I say that it’s rare that I see the police.

The Bermuda Police Service does not have the budget or the resourcing to provide effective roads policing. That is a result of a deliberate decision made by the PLP Government 20 or more years ago.
As a result of the Bermuda Police Service having insufficient resources to provide roads policing as well as other critical functions, our youth have come to realise that the suggestions of the road (what used to be rules of the road) need not be obeyed.
The current situation is one of our Government’s making. Now our Government will have meetings to discuss the consequences of its decisions.
It takes the people, there is nothing the police or anyone can do about this situation, it’s just a lot of frustrated people on our roads and they are taking there frustration from home and taking it to the roads of this island.high rents food etc majority just can’t cope so this is what we are seeing on our roads! Just be careful out on the road because it’s a war zone.
