Erica Hawley Proud Of Seventh-Place Finish
Erica Hawley said she is proud of her seventh-place finish at the World Triathlon Cup Asunción in Paraguay at the weekend.
In the past few weeks, she has also finished eighteenth at the World Triathlon Cup Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and sixth at the World Triathlon Cup Edmonton in Canada.
“What a wild four-week trip. Edmonton-Bermuda-Rio-Asunción,” she said.
“Finished up with a seventh place which I’m proud of.”
Hawley completed the 1.5-kilometre swim, 40km cycle and 10km run in 1hr 57min 31sec, finishing 1:27 behind the winner.
“After a shocker swim in Rio, I was stoked to get out the water tenth here,” she added.
The Bermudian said she felt in control during the cycle before falling while entering the second transition.
“Felt in control through the bike but had a tumble entering T2 and completely decked it.
“Bummed as I felt like it was shaping up to be a very, very good day.”
Despite the fall, Hawley said she was able to maintain her performance during the run, although she later discovered she had bruised her toe.
“Still ran well but what I thought was just frozen toes at the start, turned out to be a pretty bad bruise on my toe. Luckily no fracture!”
