Fishing Prohibited In Grouper Boxes
The Ministry of Public Works and Environment is reminding “commercial and recreational fishers that the ‘Grouper Boxes’, which contain important Black Grouper aggregations, remain closed to fishing until 1 December 2026. ”
A Government spokesperson said, “These areas are indicated on the maps as ‘Extended Closure Areas’.
“While the areas around the Red Hind aggregations opened last week, fishing is still prohibited in the ‘Grouper Boxes’ as the Black Grouper has a longer reproductive season than the Red Hind.

Who is out there policing these areas? Is it only up to Harbour Radio to keep an eye on them with radar?
Not the BPS. They cannot police Court Street, where Hamilton Police Station is.
I am still shocked that in broad daylight, I can walk down Court Street and see “suspicious” hand-to-hand transactions taking place in alleyways and on the sidewalk. Interestingly, I do not recall seeing anyone in a BPS uniform walking up and down the length of the street. But I see them leaving the station and walking in other directions.
