Police Renew Appeal In Jahkobi Smith Murder
Nine years after the fatal stabbing of Jahkobi Smith, the police are renewing their appeal for information, urging anyone with knowledge of the 2017 murder to come forward and help bring those responsible to justice.
A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service is renewing its appeal for information regarding the murder of Jahkobi Smith, which occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m., on Saturday, July 29, 2017.
“Mr. Smith was fatally stabbed following an altercation at the West End Sailboat Club, in Sandys Parish. At the time, a wake was being held in memory of the late Jahcari Francis.
“As we mark the ninth anniversary of Mr. Smith’s death, the Bermuda Police Service is once again appealing to members of the public to come forward with any information that may assist in bringing those responsible to justice and providing long-awaited closure to his family.
“Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who was present at the West End Sailboat Club, or in the surrounding area, at the time of the incident. Even the smallest detail, which may have seemed insignificant at the time, could prove crucial in advancing this investigation.
“We are also appealing to anyone who has information regarding the movements of Jahkobi Smith prior to the incident to contact Acting Detective Chief Inspector Nidol Barker of the Serious Crime Unit on 717-2176 or 247-1015, or via email at nbarker@bps.bm.
“Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers Bermuda, by calling, 800-8477 or, submitting a report online at www.crimestoppers.bm. Information may also be submitted through the Bermuda Police Service reporting portal at portal.police.bm, or by speaking with any police officer you know or trust.”
Acting Detective Chief Inspector Barker said: “There are individuals within our community with knowledge of who is responsible for the murder of Jahkobi Smith. We urge you to come forward and speak with investigators. If you have concerns about your identity, confidential and anonymous reporting options are available through Crime Stoppers Bermuda.”
Mr. Barker reminded: “With the continued support of the public, the Bermuda Police Service has successfully solved a number of serious crimes and has significantly advanced several historical murder investigations. We are confident that someone has information that can assist with this investigation.”
A police spokesperson added, “If you know anything about the murder of Jahkobi Smith, no matter how insignificant you believe it may be, we urge you to make contact with us. Your information could make the difference in finally delivering justice for Mr. Smith and his family.”
