The Department of Sport and Recreation has presented a combined $23,500 in performance incentives to six Bermudian athletes who earned medals at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games and Commonwealth Games.

Minister of Tourism & Transport, Culture & Sport Owen Darrell stated, “Today we are recognising more than medals, we are recognising the years of training, sacrifice, discipline and commitment behind these achievements. Sport matters because it teaches our young people the value of perseverance, teamwork and setting goals, while showing them what is possible when they commit themselves to excellence.”

A Government spokesperson added, “The recipients are Adriana Penruddocke, Jack Harvey, Sakari Famous, Sebastian Kempe, Tyler Smith and Jessica Lewis. Their medal-winning performances included gold, silver and bronze medals across sailing, swimming and athletics. The incentives are provided through the Government’s Outstanding Athletic Performance Incentive Programme, which recognises medal performances at major international sporting competitions. Family members accepted cheques on behalf of Adriana Penruddocke, Sakari Famous, Sebastian Kempe and Tyler Smith.

“The Department congratulates the athletes on their achievements and recognises the coaches, families, sporting organisations and support teams who contributed to their success. Their accomplishments are a reminder of the important role sport plays in building confidence, discipline and opportunity for the next generation.”
