Youth Basketball League Registration Opens
Registration is open for the 2026–2027 Bermuda Youth Basketball League, open to players aged 14 to 18 of all skill levels.
A spokesperson said, “Registration is now open for the 2026–2027 BYB League, the flagship competitive program of Bermuda Youth Basketball [BYB], with players’ ages 14 to 18 of all skill and experience levels invited to be part of its fourth season.
“Whether a player is looking for more game experience, preparing for high school basketball or simply wants another opportunity to compete, the BYB League provides a structured environment to play, develop and test their game against other young players.
“Operating under the leadership of FIBA-certified basketball coaches, the league combines player development with organized competition while creating an experience that goes beyond simply showing up and playing a game.
“Players do not need to play for a school team, be part of a national program or have extensive basketball experience to register. All skill levels are welcome.
“The road to the new season begins with a three-weekend preseason mini-camp starting Saturday, September 26 at 4:30 p.m. at MSA Gymnasium.
“The mini-camp serves as the league’s player evaluation period. Coaches have an opportunity to assess participants before placed on teams, with the goal of creating competitive balance throughout the league.
“This gives players of varying skill and experience levels an opportunity to compete alongside and against one another while helping produce competitive games throughout the season.
“The regular season runs from October 31 through February 6, with games played on Saturday afternoons at MSA Gymnasium. The gym opens at 4:30 p.m., with the first game tipping off at 4:45 p.m.
The Cobras, 2025–2026 BYB League champions, return this season looking to defend their title.
“Games played in two 16-minute halves, no running clock and feature referees and a shot clock, giving players a structured and competitive game environment.
More than Just the Game
“The BYB League, designed to create an experience players can look forward to each Saturday.
“Music and an energetic game-day atmosphere, along with fan appreciation nights, player interviews and league highlights, help make each week about more than the final score.
“The season also features BYB All-Star Saturday, bringing players from across the league together for a special event celebrating the competition, talent and excitement of the season.
“Full individual player and team statistics tracked throughout the league, allowing players to follow their performances and progress. Player awards and recognition also highlight performance, improvement and achievement during the season.
“Adding to the excitement this year, the Cobras return as defending BYB League champions and will look to defend their title after capturing the 2025–2026 championship.
A League with a Growing Track Record
“During its first three seasons, players who have competed in the BYB League have gone on to make an impact locally and overseas:
- 30+ players selected for Bermuda’s U17 and U19 national teams
- 12+ players playing high school basketball at prep boarding schools in the United States
- 5 players have progressed from U.S. prep school basketball to the college level
- Every player who has earned a BYB League award or honor has gone on to produce standout performances in the B.S.S.F. high school league
“Our goal is to give players another place to play, compete and develop their game. Every player is at a different stage. Some need more game experience, while others are looking for additional competition. The BYB League gives them an opportunity to get on the court, challenge themselves and continue improving while enjoying the experience of playing the game.
