Bulk Carrier Diverts To Bermuda For Medical Aid
A 35-year-old crew member suffering from suspected appendicitis was brought ashore for medical treatment on Sunday [September 13] after the bulk carrier Duchess Camellia — which was traveling from Louisiana to Egypt — diverted to Bermuda.
A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre / RCC Bermuda received notification from the local ships agents Meyers indicating that the captain onboard the Singapore registered 43,820grt Bulk Carrier M/V Duchess Camellia, wished to divert to Bermuda at best speed, to transfer a Filipino crew member who was suffering from a suspected appendicitis. The vessel was on passage from Convent, Louisiana USA and was bound for Port Said, Egypt. The vessel arrived offshore in Bermuda waters later on Sunday 13th September at 10:00pm, whereby the 35-year-old Filipino Crew Member was safely transferred to Ordnance Island by the Pilot/Rescue Boat St David, and subsequently taken by ambulance to KEMH for medical treatment.”
