Golfers Make Strong Start In Myrtle Beach
Bermudian golfers made a strong start at the 2026 Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship in South Carolina, with Tracy Burgess, Ann Symonds and Ann Mitchell recording top-ten opening-round finishes.
Burgess led the Bermuda contingent with a 79, placing her tied for fifth in Flight 52 of the Women’s Gross division.
In Flight 53 of the Women 59 and Under division, Symonds recorded a gross 82 and a net 75 to finish the opening round tied for ninth. Angela Cook posted a gross 91 and net 80 to sit tied for 22nd.
Mitchell opened with a gross 90 and net 79 in Flight 55 of the Senior Women 60 and Above division, placing her tied for eighth.
In Flight 22 of the Mid Senior Men 60-69 division, David Abraham carded a gross 83 and net 78 to finish tied for 18th. Antony Than also shot a gross 83, with his net 79 placing him tied for 22nd.
Richard Marriott recorded a gross and net score of 86 in Flight 9 of the Senior Men 50-59 division, leaving him tied for 49th.
Gary Venning completed the opening round of Flight 44 in the Super Senior Men 70-79 division with a gross 105 and net 94, placing him 48th.
