PLP To Hold Another Meeting On Monday
The PLP are scheduled to hold a Central Committee Meeting on Monday to discuss the ongoing matters surrounding their leadership election.
The current candidates for the PLP Leader position are Curtis Dickinson and Jason Hayward, and the matter has become what one can euphemistically call somewhat complicated, with Mr Dickinson filing legal action in the Supreme Court and obtaining an interim injunction preventing the party executives from implementing policies that they passed at a meeting on August 24th.
A notice sent out today to PLP members said that there will be a Central Committee Meeting at 8pm on Monday [Sept 14] at PLP Headquarters, where the “Executive will provide an update on the current Court proceedings and seek instructions from the Central Committee on the Party’s next steps.”
The notice also stated that “the Special Delegates Conference planned for Monday has been postponed. ”
Premier David Burt, speaking in his capacity as PLP leader, told Bernews that he remains “particularly concerned about the personal toll the dispute is taking on Party volunteers and the wider damage being done to relationships inside the PLP.”
“There is more that unites us than divides us, and I still believe sensible people can find a way through this,” he said.
The court case is still proceeding. The Supreme Court’s civil jurisdiction schedule for this week lists “Hon. Curtis Dickinson JP MP -v- Dawn Simmons et al” [Dawn Simmons is the PLP Chairperson and one of two named defendants] for Friday, September 18, with a hearing scheduled to take place in chambers.
