Visiting Girl Guides Join Community Clean-Up

More than 55 Girl Guides visiting Bermuda on a cruise ship joined local Girl Guides and volunteers for a recent community clean-up at Somerset Long Bay.

Volunteers from the Bermuda National Trust, Keep Bermuda Beautiful, Bermuda Audubon Society and Somerset Rotary Club removed litter from the beach and surrounding reserve.

The group also planted three Bermuda cedars and one Bermuda palmetto.

Myles Darrell, head of Natural Heritage at the Bermuda National Trust, said the clean-up was a great opportunity to welcome the visiting Girl Guides and introduce them to Bermuda’s natural and cultural heritage.

“It was really cool so many of our charity organisations were on hand to welcome them, too,” Mr Darrell told Bernews.

“They all chipped in to support – it was a lot of fun.

“We managed to get a truck load of rubbish from Somerset Long Bay Beach.”
