Age Concern Bermuda and Connectech Coding today launched the Digital Confidence Series, a practical technology programme designed to help adults aged 50 and older overcome the digital divide and use everyday technology with greater confidence.

A spokesperson said, “The first classes begin today with Device Basics, offering participants hands-on assistance with smartphones and tablets. The sessions will help participants become more comfortable navigating their devices, adjusting useful settings, connecting to Wi-Fi, using applications, creating stronger passwords and protecting their personal information.

“The full series includes three topic areas:

“Device Basics: Practical help using smartphones and tablets, including navigation, settings, applications and safer device use.

“Staying Connected: Guidance on using email, messaging, WhatsApp and video calls while managing privacy and recognizing suspicious links and impersonation scams.

“Everyday Digital Life: Support with finding reliable information, navigating useful websites and applications, completing online forms, managing appointments and using digital services more safely.

“Internet safety, scams and fraud prevention will be incorporated throughout all three topics so participants can learn not only how to use technology, but also how to recognize warning signs and protect their personal, account and payment information.”

“Technology now plays an important role in how people access information, communicate with loved ones and complete everyday tasks,” said Mercedes Pringle-DeSilva, Executive Director of Age Concern Bermuda. “The Digital Confidence Series is about meeting older adults where they are and providing practical, patient support that helps them feel more informed, connected, independent and secure online.”

A spokesperson added, “Classes are being delivered at Connectech, located on the fourth floor of Sofia House, 48 Church Street, Hamilton. Multiple dates are available through December 26, with both morning and afternoon options:

Morning: 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
Afternoon: 1:00–3:00 p.m.

“Participants may register for the topic, available date and session time that best meets their interests and needs. Each class is limited to 20 participants to support a comfortable, hands-on learning environment.

“Members of the public are encouraged to register now for upcoming sessions in Device Basics, Staying Connected and Everyday Digital Life. Participants do not need to attend every topic and may select the classes that are most relevant to them.

“Attendees are encouraged to bring the device they would like to learn on, along with its charger. Light refreshments will be offered.
