The Department of Education confirmed that Dame Marjorie Bean Hope Academy closed today, Thursday, October 15, “due to drainage concerns affecting school operations.”

A Government spokesperson said, “The Department became aware of developments relating to the situation late Wednesday evening, which significantly limited the time available to notify parents and guardians before the start of the school day. We sincerely regret the short notice and the inconvenience caused to families.

“Department officials attended the school this morning to assess the situation. The drainage issue has been partially remedied, and the source of a persistent odour has been identified. Further corrective work is scheduled for this evening to address the outstanding concerns.

“The Department is working closely with the relevant departments to ensure the necessary corrective measures are completed and that the school environment is safe for students and staff.

“The Ministry of Health team recommends that the school remain closed until the drainage system is fully repaired and the facilities are confirmed safe and operational. As of this evening, the school will remain closed on Friday, 16 October.

“The health, safety and well-being of students and staff remain our highest priority. We appreciate the school community’s patience and understanding as we work to resolve the matter as quickly and safely as possible.”
