Premier David Burt has concluded a week of overseas engagements promoting investment in Bermuda and discussing corporate income tax with the OECD.

In a post on his Instagram, Premier Burt said, “I’m returning to Bermuda this evening after a week spent promoting our international business sector, with a clear purpose: to attract investment that creates jobs and opportunities for Bermudians.

“In Zurich, I joined the Bermuda Business Development Agency at Apex Invest Europe, meeting investors and family offices to encourage more investment funds and fund administration businesses to choose Bermuda. It is a source of pride that Apex, founded in Bermuda in 2003, now operates in 52 countries.

“Today in Paris, I met with the OECD Secretary-General on matters affecting Bermuda’s corporate income tax. As the OECD develops further guidance, it is important to share Bermuda’s perspective at the highest level and ensure our position is clearly understood.

“We have successfully implemented corporate income tax and are already seeing its benefits. Maintaining these relationships supports our reputation as a cooperative international financial centre and helps ensure companies remain in Bermuda and continue contributing to our economy.

“We have balanced the budget and, with continued economic growth and corporate income tax revenues, are now in a position to repay debt. That means less money spent on interest and a stronger financial future for Bermuda.”
