After nine years with the Bermuda Police Service, Police Constable Richard “Richie” Stephenson is retiring.

A police spokesperson said,”After nine years of dedicated service, the Bermuda Police Service bids a fond farewell to Police Constable Richard “Richie” Stephenson as he embarks on his retirement.

“Richie joined the BPS from Wiltshire Police in the United Kingdom, bringing with him valuable experience as a firearms officer, along with a strong work ethic and commitment to policing.

“It didn’t take long for Richie to settle into island life. He quickly embraced Bermuda’s culture and became a familiar face within the St. David’s community. In fact, Richie recalls that once he discovered it was perfectly acceptable to walk around St. David’s barefoot, he knew he’d found his kind of people!

“And Richie didn’t make the move alone. He brought his wife and three daughters along for the adventure, making Bermuda home for the entire family. Although Richie has since returned to the UK to be with family including a granddaughter; his connection to the island remains strong, with one of his daughters marrying a Bermudian and choosing to make Bermuda her home.

“Throughout his service, Richie earned the respect of colleagues through his professionalism, meticulous attention to detail and willingness to share his knowledge. Described by fellow officers as both a mentor and a role model, he has left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to have worked alongside him.

“However, behind Richie’s serious approach to policing lies a rather dark sense of humour, something his colleagues have come to know and, appreciate.

“As Richie closes this chapter, we thank him for his nine years of service, dedication and the contributions he has made to both the BPS and the wider Bermuda community.”
