Transitional Community Services, a registered charity dedicated to empowering boys and young men to lead their lives and shape their futures, announced the expansion of its services through the introduction of PIVOT [Positive Intervention for Vulnerable and Offending Teens].

A spokesperson said, “PIVOT will extend individualized support to boys and young men ages 8–18, building on five years of experience supporting young adult men in Bermuda. TCS will begin to accept referrals to PIVOT in January 2027.

“The expansion marks a significant milestone for TCS, extending its reach beyond the young adult population traditionally served through its Community Bridge Builders [CBB] program to include boys and young men between the ages of 8 and 18.

“Since launching CBB in February 2021, TCS has provided individualized, relationship based support to men ages 18–34, helping them navigate challenges related to employment, housing, personal development, and community reintegration. Through consistent Leadership Coaching, access to counseling, employability skill building, and advocacy, the organization has developed an approach grounded in dignity, accountability, and the belief that every individual possesses the capacity for growth.

“PIVOT builds upon this foundation, introducing developmentally appropriate interventions designed to engage boys and young men at earlier stages of their lives.

“The program will combine individualized Leadership Coaching, structured group activities, family engagement, practical skill-building, and opportunities for positive social connection.

“Importantly, PIVOT is designed to support young people experiencing a range of vulnerabilities, including behavioral challenges, educational disengagement, exposure to violence, and early involvement with the criminal justice system. Its approach recognizes that meaningful intervention must address not only presenting behaviors but also the circumstances, experiences, and unmet needs that may contribute to them.”

Dr. Tiffanne Thomas, Founder and Executive Director of TCS, described the expansion as both a natural progression and an intentional investment in Bermuda’s future.”

Dr. Thomas said, “Over the past five years, our work with young adult men has consistently reinforced the importance of relationships, timely intervention, and creating opportunities for individuals to see possibilities beyond their present circumstances. We have also learned that many of the challenges our Members experience did not begin in adulthood. PIVOT allows us to extend our reach, engage young people earlier, and work alongside families and community partners to strengthen the foundations upon which their futures are built.

“Early intervention is not simply about preventing negative outcomes. It is about creating opportunities for positive ones. We want boys and young men to recognize their value, understand their capacity to make choices, and have access to relationships and experiences that support their development. Our expansion reflects our belief that every young person deserves that opportunity.”

Investing in the People Behind the Programs

The spokesperson said, “Central to TCS’ approach is its team of Leadership Coaches, who work directly with Members to establish trusting relationships, identify individual needs, develop personalized plans, and connect them with resources and opportunities.

“Unlike traditional service models that focus primarily on managing challenges, TCS’ Leadership Coaching approach emphasizes individual strengths, personal responsibility, and the development of leadership capacity.

“Cheyra Bell, who joined TCS in 2022, brings an academic background in psychology and professional experience in football. Her approach encourages Members to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, recognize their potential, and move forward with purpose. Her experience and established relationships with Members have contributed to the development and continued delivery of TCS’ individualized support model.

“Kenten Trott, who joined TCS in November 2026, brings extensive experience from his career with the Bermuda Police Service, including service as an Inspector and work involving vulnerable and high-risk young people. His transition into Leadership Coaching represents a continued commitment to public service, with an emphasis on building relationships and supporting young people through opportunities for positive development.

“Together, Bell and Trott bring complementary professional experiences and perspectives to the organization, strengthening TCS’ capacity to deliver responsive, relationship based services across its expanding programs.”

Dr. Thomas said, “Our Leadership Coaches are at the heart of what we do. Their work requires far more than professional knowledge. It requires consistency, creativity, patience, accountability, and a genuine willingness to show up for our Members. Cheyra and Kenten bring different experiences and strengths, but they share a commitment to seeing the person beyond the circumstances. That is fundamental to our approach.”

Strengthening Community Collaboration

The spokesperson said, “As part of the expansion, TCS is engaging stakeholders across education, social services, the criminal justice system, and the wider community to introduce PIVOT, explore referral pathways, and identify opportunities for collaboration.

“The organization recognizes that no single program or agency can address the complex and interconnected challenges experienced by vulnerable young people. Effective intervention requires coordinated efforts, meaningful partnerships, and a shared commitment to supporting young people and their families.”

Dr. Thomas said, “This expansion is not about duplicating existing services. It is about contributing to a more connected and responsive system of support. We recognize the important work already taking place across Bermuda and look forward to strengthening those efforts through collaboration, shared learning, and a commitment to meeting young people where they are.”

The spokesperson said, “As TCS enters its next chapter, its underlying philosophy remains unchanged: to shift a mindset is to change a life.

“Through PIVOT and Community Bridge Builders, the organization will continue working to ensure that boys and young men have access to the relationships, resources, and opportunities necessary to shape their own futures.”
