No New Contract: BFA Technical Director

August 11, 2010

derek broadleyEnding speculation, it has been confirmed that the contract for Bermuda Football Association’s Technical Director Derek Broadley will not be extended.

The BFA says that the decision was “partially based on the fact that the Association’s long term vision is to have a Bermudian assume the role of Technical Director and that Derek’s guidance during his three year tenure with the Association was to provide the impetus for this vision to be realized”, and that “there was also a cost consideration due in part to the significant decrease in Government funding from the original $3 million per year three years ago to $1 million for the current fiscal year.”

The BFA stated the Executive Council is pleased with Mr Broadley’s overall performance in that he was able to implement and accomplish many of the related initiatives contained in the Association’s Strategic Plan.

The BFA says that “the Association has decided that it will seek the services of an international technical development specialist to provide mentoring and technical assistance for a two year period. In doing so, our coaches will be afforded reasonable autonomy, while simultaneously being required to follow an agreed strategic action plan. It is expected that the Consultant will visit Bermuda 3-4 times a year to evaluate our coaching and development programs, conduct coaching seminars/courses and provide sustained guidance and direction to the coaching fraternity in Bermuda. At the end of the two year period, the Association will be well placed to confirm in office a Bermudian Technical Director.”

This news comes only weeks after Bermuda Football Association President Richard Calderon announced he will step down as of September 2010.

The BFA is got to go down in history as THE WORST sporting organization!!

Changes Changes and Changes….David Sabir, I’m surprised at you….you’ve been there the longest but soccer hasn’t seemed to improve….

You guys have again taken away the Xmas Dudley Eve tournament (your bigest money maker) to bring in foreign teams to play against a Bermuda Team that is cooked up like minute rice, only to be embarassed in front of impatient Bermudian fans.

    Here’s my BFA admin team…

    President: Clyde Best
Secretary: Someone That Improves Local Soccer

Tech. Director: Someone That Has Bermuda Playing on a Regular and not scrambles a team together just for Christmas

Wake The Eff Up BFA…Wake UP!!!!

I must have missed something, what changes are you alluding to? If it is Broadley than you should note that he remains in the job until next April when his contract expires. I know this shocks some because contract workers seldom leave at the completion of their contract. So is this your concern? Do you have a problem with a Bermudian becoming a Technical Director? Do you even know what a succession plan is?

For the record, the Hogges, defacto the under 23 team, just completed 16games against top US College players, for pennies on the dollar. They will now prepare for Olympic qualifiers and ultimately World Cup qualification. This sustained game competition has never, ever happened before so I am unsure what you refer to when you state that Bermuda is not playing on a regular basis. Did you sleep though the Clyde Best tournament or last summer when our young players played 8 matches against USL reserve players? Where were you?? Did you not hear the FA state on numerous occassions that the under 23 team is their primary age group as it relates to senior football. Did that same group play againsy Jamiaca and T&T or was I dreaming?

It is quite clear that preparation and patience are words you struggle with..

The Dudley Eve is not a money maker for the FA in fact the cost in security is astronomical. Further, this tournament is the worse competition ever created. Ask any reputable former player and they will tell you that 5 competitions and this competiton in particular has resulted in a significant number of injuries and has reduced the league title to 2nd class status. On that note did I miss something or did the FA fund Cugars involvement in the CONCACAF tournament for winning the LEAGUE TITLE…

I have often been told to consider the source when evaluating comments made by naysayers. Not knowing you, I can only deduce that you dont have a clue about the state of our football and you clearly have no appreciation for the many positive changes made to what was a very sad product. It is my guess that you have not been taken serious by the current Executive and or have real problems digesting the general secretaries prominent status in FIFA.

This would be an opportune time for you to chat to your shrink as you require professional assistance to ease the pain associated with coveting anothers good fortune. Powerful thing envy. Good luck with that!!

NOW GO BACK TO SLEEP and leave football to people that know something about it.

      Nite nite..

Leaving football to people that wear suits is the reason why Bermuda’s FIFA ranking is still stuck on stupid.

Now wake up and smell what the rock is cooking

        Bla Bla Bla

        • bob todd says:

Wearing suits after wearing jerseys with distinction is not mutually exclusive.
Our FIFA ranking is understandable given the substandard level of coaching and administration at the club level. Something this administration has attempted to improve and if you poll unbiased and knowledgeable folk in the game you will determine that there is significant suport for what has transpired since 08. Ultimately this will result in an mprovement at the national level.

Careful, you are truly showing your lack of understanding of our game and the game in general.

I truly suggest that you get off the rock as it has clearly affected you in a multitude of ways..

A mind is a terrible thing to waste..

This is the best thing to happen to football n Bermuda since… Well since the ball… The only positive to come out of Mr. Broadleys tenure was the corona league was formed… Id love to see a Bermudian technical director that heads us in the right direction… Seems like changes all around for the BFA lets hop they get it right this time..

    • bob todd says:

They have been getting it right for a few years and you are absolutely correct, creating the Corona league allows the FA to concentrate on young talented Bermudians. Looks as though multiple winners emerged from this forced seperation..

      • alex says:

They need to put more focus in on the young players n take them off of the streets and away from the non sense if youve ever been to a pdl game you would know the tension is high at those games ive seen a few end in fights…. As far as talented goes there arent that many and if they bfa really wanted to help they would line up more trials for them and get them out of bermuda so they can shine… By the way the corona league has some very talented players as well..

        • bob todd says:

More focus on young players. Are you having a laugh?? The FA is totally committed to young players….. that is seen in the Academies and involvement at the PDL level..

As for professional football, it makes more sense if our young players focussed on school and seeking oportunities in US prep schools and colleges. That by the way is working out quite well.

The odds of our players turning pro in numbers is not high, hence the emphasis being placed on playing against US teams to expose our players to college and prep school coaches…

The Corona league can only ever be a fun league, hence me not taking it serious. If good players play there then I can only ask why???
