BB Messenger Catches Man: 3 Months Prison
A 24-year-old man is behind bars today after stealing a BlackBerry and subsequently getting caught after uploading his photo to the BB messenger feature of the stolen phone.
Erin Richardson was at the Docksiders Bar on Front Street on June 29th this year when he pocketed the phone, later denying he did so when the female owner approached him.
The owner of the BlackBerry purchased a new phone, and when transferring contacts she discovered Mr Richardson’s photo and details had been uploaded to her old phone.
She passed the details onto the Police, who arrested Mr Richardson at his Pembroke residence. He was sentenced to three months in Magistrates Court yesterday [Aug 10].

Betcha 100 bucks he had too much to drink and a drunken human nature thing took over. We all have our moments ( not neccessairly alcahol related ).
Just looking at that photo shown you can see that he is the biggest cyber/tech thief in Bermuda.
Give him a break. He made a mistake and will suffer more than you and I.
I also noticed the “Cyber Cop” walking him too Court. Amazing eh……..’One man, one vote, one Cop to cross the moat’…………………….
If he has any remorse he’ll plead guilty and he won’t be ‘becks’ before the courts…………
@Terry. If you read the story you would have seen that the owner approached him and he denied it drunk or not. Then he kept it long enough to start uploading pictures on a phone that he should have known wasn’t his after he sobered up. I know she must have called her phone a few times looking for it. He kept it and now he has to pay. Giving guilty people breaks is not the way. If I find your car with the keys in it while I’m drunk and keep it after I’m sober then that should be considered intentionally stealing. Ususually the people that really deserve a break don’t get it.
He certainly didn’t appear that he’d had too much to drink when I approached him about stealing my phone and he outright denied it! I also informed him that the phone was actually the property of a charity, (for which I am director) and I hoped that he wouldn’t steal from charity. However, he just laughed and said, “Sweetheart, I don’t need to take your phone.”
I am not excited about sending another young black man to jail, I even reached out to another youth organisation to see if he was still involved with them so that they might set him straight. However, he wasn’t, and seeing as I gave him the opportunity to give it back, PLUS saw comments on his FB page that demonstrated he was not remorseful…. sigh… what were the other options? Let him off? After I had to purchase another phone, plus pay some $300 to get out of my original contract?

I totally agree with you Kristen! I know him and he is a THIEF! Good for you because other people would have just let it slide! Glad he will suffer the consequences now. But cant say that he will learn his leasson. Some people just cannot be helped.

From how he acted after Kristen confronted him, I gather that this was nothing new to him.

I know Erin, if there is a good bone in his body its hiding somewhere good… He’s been into mischief since young, (not to say ppl don’t change) but he needs to face the consequences of being caught in a huge lie and theft!!!!
