20-Yr-Old Man Dies In Paget Traffic Accident

[Updated with victim's name] This morning [Sept 1] Bermuda experienced our eighth road traffic fatality of the year. Police responded to a report of a road traffic collision that took place between two motorcycles on Berry Hill Road in Paget in the area around Botanical Gardens at around 6am this morning. The Police say that it appears that the motorcycles were traveling in opposite directions when they collided. The other motorcyclist sustained what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries. He was also taken to hospital via ambulance for treatment

Update 1pm: Police name victim as 20 year old Geoffrey Burns of Pembroke.

Update 1:30pm: Lifeguard services have been suspended due to the unfortunate death of Mr Burns, who worked in the department.

Details surrounding the collision are sketchy however a 20 year old man was taken to KEMH, however he died as a result of his injuries, and was pronounced dead at 7am. No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified.

The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family & friends of Mr. Burns, as does Bernews.

This death marked the eighth road traffic fatality of 2010:

1. 28 yr old Katrina Flood died on June 12 after a bike accident.
2. 27 yr old Omar Sutton died on May 29 after a collision with a truck.
3. 69 yr old Derek Smith died on April 24, weeks after being struck by a motorcycle.
4. 41 yr old Andre Hendrickson died after being struck by a car on Apr 17.
5. 26 yr old Carlton Darrell died on April 2nd after a single vehicle accident in Devonshire
6. 23 year old Dareiko Simons died on January 9 after his bike collided with a car in Sandys.
7. 21 year old heart transplant survivor Earl Ingemann died after a Jan 1st car crash in St. George’s.
