Airtran: Bermuda to Atlanta & Baltimore Flights
Bermuda will have a new airline serving us from April 2011 onwards, with AirTran Airways set to begin service to both Balitmore and Atlanta.
The Baltimore route will begin on April 7, 2011, through October 24, 2011, while service from Atlanta to Bermuda will begin on May 26, 2011, through September 6, 2011. The Baltimore flight will leave daily at 5:05pm, and the Atlanta flight will leave Bermuda at 3:10pm daily.
“Bermuda is delighted to welcome new air services from AirTran. With such strong business, cultural and educational ties with both Atlanta and the Baltimore-Washington area, the introduction of these two new flights brings with it a choice in direct air service along with added seats at lower fares,” said Minister of Transport Terry Lister. “And given AirTran’s proven track record of entering new markets and succeeding, this will undoubtedly bring about additional visitors to our shores. We look forward to a long standing relationship with AirTran.”
“Adding Bermuda to our already extensive international route map means more options than ever for our loyal customers to enjoy the world-renowned beaches and activities of some of the most popular vacation getaways around,” said John Kirby, AirTran Airways’ senior director of strategic planning and scheduling at the conference. “We’re making it easier than ever for our loyal customers from around our network to experience the famous hospitality, pink-sand beaches and unique island culture of Bermuda at a reasonable price.”
Update: Full remarks from Transport Minister Terry Lister added below.
In about two hours Airline executives attending the Network Latin America 2010 airline conference in Costa Rica will announce that they will start flying not one, but two daily roundtrip flights to Bermuda, the first from Baltimore/Washington and the second, from Atlanta, Georgia.
It is only fitting that the people of Bermuda should be the first to know of this exciting new development. I’m pleased to announce today that AirTran will be the newest low-cost airline to service Bermuda and the second in a little over a year. That service will begin this spring. The daily flights from Baltimore/Washington will begin on April 7, 2011 and continue through October 24, 2011, while those from Atlanta will begin on May 26, 2011 and continue through September 6, 2011.
This seasonal service also offers visitors an alternative, a more economical option to travel to the island. In fact, connections to Bermuda will now be available from more than 45 cities throughout the AirTran Airways network via Baltimore/Washington and Atlanta including New York, Boston and Orlando.
For those of you who are unaware, AirTran is a low cost carrier that also services such destinations as Aruba, Cancun, Mexico, Jamaica, the Bahamas, and the Dominican Republic.
I trust that this new service will be a success – and that AirTran will continue to serve Bermuda’s residents and visitors for many years to come.
I’m pleased to be joined today by Mr. Aaron Adderley, General Manager of the LF Wade International Airport who has played a huge part in ensuring that this latest venture has come to fruition. This is part of an ongoing effort to make Bermuda one of the most connected little islands in the world. Thank you, Aaron.
I will now invite Minister Minors to address you.
Thank You.
This sounds excellent although I’m still waiting for another flight to the UK… BA is ridiculously expensive !
Yes. Nice.
About time! Airtran is a low cost and conveinient alternitive to expense Delta on the BDA-ATL route.
Yes..when is the low cost flight to Europe coming…apparently Lufthansa German Airlines have wanted to come to Bermuda for the last 5 years and Bermuda Gov. wont budge…what gives???
I want Virgin Atlantic
Or
RyanAir :p (this one is a joke)
Gov wont budge? meaning?
Keep in mind…Delta will match Airtran/SouthWest airfares…don’t you worry. I am certain Airtran’s fares will be very close to USA3000 if not matching.
Ive just looked for June to go to Atlanta on Airtran and it’s $500 +
I hope they don’t ditch us like USA3000….them dummies gave Continental a run for their money then stop….like wtf….too bad Airtran couldn’t start now…people trying to get off the island for xmas and New Years
Great news for bermuda well needed for sick people to go to baltimore???
WOW…good news for Bermuda and Air Tran Airways!!! With another low-cost carrier flying to Bermuda will ultimately mean lower fares to the U.S and Bermuda and is exactly what is needed to increase the number of tourist on the island!!!
