Football: Bermuda Beat Barbados 2 – 1

[Updated - Bermuda won their final qualifying match this evening, besting Barbados 2 - 1, with goals by Nahki Wells in the 46th minute, and Khano Smith who converted a penalty in the 72nd minute. Barbados managed to pull one back late in the game, with Sheridan Grosvenor scoring in stoppage time]

Bermuda take on Barbados this evening [Nov.14] in their last 2014 World Cup CONCACAF Qualifier match starting at 8pm.

So far Bermuda has played 5 games in the series, winning 2, drawing 1, and losing 2. They have beaten Barbados 2:1, lost 2:1 and drew 1:1 with Guyana, and lost 1:0 and won 2:1 against Trinidad and Tobago, and will not advance to the next round.

The match this evening has been designated as a Barbados home match, and the Referee is Roberto Moreno [PAN], with Assistant Referees Daniel Williamson [PAN] and Gabriel Antonio Victoria [PAN] while the Fourth Official is Jose Pineda [HON].

Bermuda’s starting lineup: Tahj Bell [goalkeeper], John Nusum, Tyrrell Burgess, Andre Manders, Nahki Wells, Domico Coddington, Lashun Dill, Devaun Degraff, Kwame Steede, Khano Smith [captain], and Devrae Tankard. Substitutes: Seion Darrell, Kamen Tucker, Damon Ming, Dale Eve, Marquel Waldron, Angelo Simmons, Quadir Maynard, Antwan Russell

Barbados’ starting lineup: Bentley Springer [goalkeeper], Barry Skeete, Jonathan Straker, Renaldo Marques, Mario Harte, Kyle Gibson, Ramuel Miller, Dwayne Griffith, Tristan Parris, John Parris [captain] Sheridan Grosvenor. Substitutes: Rommel Burgess, Jason Lovell, Carl Joseph, Dwayne Mars

Update 8.05pm: The game is underway

Update 8.17pm: First shot on goal was taken by Nahki Wells, however the shot went wide. This was followed up by a shot from Domico Coddington, which was saved by Barbados goalkeeper Bentley Springer.

Update 8.21pm: Barbados just had their first shot on goal, but the header went wide.

Update 8.39pm: Score remains 0:0.

Update 8.53pm: Bermuda’s keeper Tahj Bell blocks a shot just before the first half ends – now halftime – score 0:0.

Update 9.11pm: Second half underway, Bermuda scores after only one minute of play! Score now 1:0. Goal was a 25/30 yard strike by Nahki Wells – flew in last night from the U.K to take part in this game.

Update 9.26pm: Bermuda’s John Nusum received a yellow card in the 52nd minute, and a few minutes later was substituted, with Antwan Russell coming off the bench. Also in the 56th minute, Domico Coddington was substituted, with Damon Ming coming on the field. Barbados has not made any substitutions yet.

Update 9.32pm: Barbados’ Tristan Parris received a yellow card

Update 9.35pm: Bermuda’s Lashun Dill replaced by Angelo Simmons in the 65th minute. Barbados’ captain John Parris receives yellow card. Barbados substitutes Carl Joseph in for Tristan Parris in the 70th minute.

Update 9.37pm: Bermuda was awarded a penalty in the 72nd minute after the Barbados keeper brought down Antwan Russell inside the box. Penalty was taken by captain Khano Smith – who scored! Game now 2:0 in favour of Bermuda.

Update 9.50pm: In the 77th minute, Barbados took Mario Harte off, and replaced him with Dwayne Mars, and in the 80th minute Barry Skeete was replaced by Jason Lovell.

Update 9.55pm: In the 80th minute Barbados Jason Lovell received a yellow card, and in the 89th minute Bermuda’s captain Khano Smith also received a yellow card. Another shot on goal from Nahki Wells in the 87th minute, however it was blocked by the Barbados keeper.

Update 9.59pm: Barbados’ Sheridan Grosvenor scored in stoppage time [91st minute] making the game 2 – 1, however the referee blew the whistle moments after – and Bermuda walks away with another win [2 - 1].

    Wow, everybody must be at home studying the BIU financials!!
    The Bernews photo shows nothing but empty seats.

    Nahki goal was idetical to the one on bernews scored in Eglad, That goal tonight was a scorcher from all of 30 yards out and very identical, By the way he shall go very far if he can maintain his head. Nice little chap. The whole squad looked very good util Nusam was substituted. Amazing how a match can change when a major component comes out of the game. That guy has great composure. Goalkeeper needs to stop taking silly risks, he nearly conceede a couple of goals tonight just playing in the area, man kick the damn ball out of harms way and stop trying to be so cute, Over all I rate it a C +……
