Corona League Becomes Carlsberg League
Bermuda’s Corona League has been renamed the Carlsberg League and will move its matches from Goose Gosling Field to Devonshire Recreation Club for the new season.
The campaign kicks off on Friday [October 23], with league champions Inter BDA facing Corona League Cup winners YGSC in the Charity Cup.
David Furtado, the Carlsberg League president, said the changes marked a new direction for the competition.
“We had new sponsors come in and we felt it was time the league had a new direction,” Furtado told Bernews.
“We’re happy with the move to Devonshire Rec.
“We look forward to welcoming our clubs, players, supporters and sponsors as we prepare to kick off the new season.”
Furtado said the clubs had voted in favour of the change of venue.
The league was originally known as the Commercial League and was established in 2009.
“The league will continue its longstanding tradition of competitive football in Bermuda, while entering a new chapter with a new title sponsor, refreshed identity and a new home,” Furtado added.
The league’s board is Furtado [president], Ezekiel Stoneham [vice-president], Marquel Waldron [treasurer] and Nathan Clarke [secreary].
