2011 World Rugby Classic Final Results
Argentina are the 2011 World Rugby Classic Champions after beating the Classic Lions 25-19 in the World Rugby Classic Finals this evening [Nov.12] at the National Stadium.
Classic Lions 19 Argentina 25
The Classic Lions went in front after only five minutes when Malcolm O’Kelly from Ireland went over for a Try, and when Andy Gommersall kicked the Conversion they held a 7 – 0 lead, however after sustaining a long period of pressure Argentina Center Diego Giannantonio scored a Try in the 15th minute.
Two minutes later Argentina stunned the crowd when Alejandro Galli scored a Try, and when Federico Jordan Todeschini kicked the Conversion they then held a 12 – 7 lead.
In the 25th minute the lead was then extended as Argentina Full back Santiago Van Der Ghote scored a Try as they held a 17 – 7 lead at half time.
Just as they did in the first half the Classic Lions scored early Hooker Gordon Bulloch scored a Try and Gommersall kicked the Conversion, with some 21 minutes remaining the Classic Lions then took the lead when James Topping went over for a Try to make the score 19 – 17.
With 7 minutes remaining Argentina took the lead when Todeschini kicked a Penalty to take a 20 – 19 lead and just when the clock was about run out Pablo Gambarini leaped over the line for another Argentina Try to spark wild scenes of celebration.
United States 24 Australia 34
Garrick Morgan gave Australia the lead early in the first half, the United States then got on the board when Eric Masterson scored a Try and Sammy Gonzales kicked the Conversion making the score 7 – 5 to the United States.
Luis Tulio then scored a Try for the United States and Gonzales kicked the Conversion for a lead of 14 – 5, but Australia would begin their comeback as Dan Collins scored a Try and when Nick Reily kicked the Conversion it make it a two point game 14 – 12.
In the second half, Reily gave Australia the lead when he scored a Try and kicked the Conversion, minutes later Reily scored his second Try to make the score 24 – 14 to Australia.
The United States got right back into the game when Tulio went over with two Australian players hanging all over him to make the score 24 – 19. Anton La Vin then went over for Australia to make it 29 – 19, before Christian Warner made it 34 – 19, the United States was able to score another try when Michael Hurley went over but time ran out on them.
Bermuda Barbarians 0 White Plains RFC 12
In the Final day opener the Bermuda Barbarians went down to White Plains RFC 12 – 0. White Plains got Try’s from Glenn Gawronski and Ross Leafblad to come away with the win.
