Astronaut Tweets Photo Of Bermuda From Space
Canadian astronaut Commander Chris Hadfield tweeted a photo of Bermuda from space this morning [Apr 24], and included a ‘shout out’ to the Lavigne family who reside in Bermuda. He also posted the photo on Facebook and Google+, reaching over a million of his followers.
Commander Hadfield was the the first Canadian to walk in space and the first Canadian to command the International Space Station. After he arrived at the International Space Station in December 2012, he quickly became an internet sensation by posting photos online showing an inside look at living in space.

The Spaceship Commander has shown himself to be quite social media savvy, posting one-of-a-kind photos of places across the world and garnering in excess of 700,000 Twitter followers and 200,000+ Facebook fans in recent months.
Along with the United States, Russia, Europe and Japan, Canada is a partner in the International Space Station, an orbiting research laboratory. Since the first module of the Station was launched in 1998, the Station has circled the globe 16 times per day at 28,000 km/h at an altitude of about 370 km, covering a distance equivalent to the Moon and back daily.
Justin Lavigne — who the Commander thanked in his Tweet — is friends with the Commander’s son Evan and has been helping to spread the word about Commander Hadfield’s mission.
Mr Lavigne first met Commander Hadfield through Evan, and the Commander learned of his family when Evan and his wife came on vacation to Bermuda and stayed with the Lavignes.
“Since Chris returned to space for his third time in December, I have been helping Evan to spread awareness of his father across the world,” said Mr Lavigne.
“Chris makes this much easier by being fantastically interesting and posting unique content daily on his Twitter, Facebook and Youtube feeds. He takes beautiful photos whenever he gets the chance and also films educational shorts which offer people a close connection to the unusual life perspective he has.
“Chris wanted to show his appreciation to me and my family by posting the picture and comment for us. He knows that I am away from my family at the moment to work with Evan in order get the most exposure during these final weeks of Chris’ flight.”
