November 29, 2013

On Monday, November 25, 2013,  in Bermuda closed their office doors to hold their annual Make a Difference Day [MaDD] in support of Outward Bound.

Outward Bound holds educational courses on Paget Island and is responsible for maintaining the property which is operated by the charity.

As part of KPMG’s ongoing commitment to serve the community, utilising the talents of their staff, KPMG in Bermuda donated time, community service, and useful equipment to complete the following tasks:

  • Landscaping - KPMG Team and members of Bermuda Regiment helped improve air circulation and visibility by cutting back overgrown foliage, brush and undergrowth from the pathways, facilities and accommodations. The KPMG Team also helped to make a difference by focusing attention on the well loved Paget Island Obstacle Course, cutting back growth 3ft – 5ft from the course and cable attachments.
  • Fort Cunningham – The KPMG Team and Bermuda Regiment also worked to clear and, otherwise open, the grounds around Fort Cunningham, preparing it for greater use by students next season.
  • Painting and cleaning – KPMG Staff cleaned and touched-up with paint much needed areas such as cabinets, walls and wooden rafters.

Mark Norman, Executive Director of Outward Bound, stated, “The Charitable Board for Outward Bound Bermuda appreciates the assistance of KPMG in Bermuda with a community clean up day at our Paget Island base.

“With only one full time staff member, keeping up with maintenance requirements on the Island is often a much neglected task, so it is absolutely amazing to have had this many people in one day to give us a jump start to our winter programme after a very busy summer!”

Jamila Godwin, Marketing Assistant at KPMG in Bermuda stated, “MaDD has proven to be a success with completing assigned tasks in such a short period of time. The overall impact and support given to Outward Bound has provided great satisfaction and a sense of pride to all who participated in our annual community initiative.”

“KPMG in Bermuda also gratefully acknowledges the assistance provided by the Bermuda Regiment, who provided safety boats, first aid oversight and additional man-power and equipment to help make the day a success.”
