Photo Set #3: 2014 Non-Mariners Race

The Non-Mariners Race — which sees “non-boats” hit the water with most collapsing and sinking within minutes — took place on Sunday afternoon [Aug 3] at the Sandys Boat Club, with large crowds in attendance.

The “non-event” kicks off with the “non-colors raising,” which is followed by “non-penguins fly past,” which is followed by the march on by the “non-calypso pipe band,” which sees the band members dressed in rather unusual attire.

The “non-boats” often have a theme based on news events, and this year was no different, with one float paying tribute to the closure of the Bermuda Sun newspaper, another played on the now infamous “White Mental Illness” sign, while the “JetGate” controversy was highlighted with an over-sized Dunkley’s Dairy milk carton “boat” listing the ingredients as $350,000 missing; 1 Jet; 6,000 PRC, 3 Resignations, and 1 NonGaming vote.
