Rev. Prime-Godwin’s New Leadership Book
A new book by Rev. Georgette V. Prime-Godwin takes a unique approach to the subject of leadership and its positive role in the world, drawing on the Christian Bible for its inspiration in helping to inform leaders from all walks of life, from the church itself to the world of corporate business.
Titled The Nehemiah Prototype – A Complementary Guide to Organizational Leadership for the 21st Century Church, the book aims to provide readers with an inverted approach to organizational growth in order to identify, build, and empower their human resources to take ownership of the organization’s vision and mission, by infusing insight and practical approaches.
Rev. Prime-Godwin said, “I have always served in a leadership capacity within the church structure and as a corporate trainer for over 20 years, and there are commonalities within each – at some point they tend to not reflect a consistent product.
“The question became why? It is my hope and intent that this book will help facilitate the reader’s journey while assisting to transform their heart so that it emulates the glory of God. As they transform, the organization that they represent will assume a similar likeness.
“I introduce four leadership models based on the book of Nehemiah and typical hierarchy: Inspection Team, Cupbearer, Overseer, and Builders of the Wall.
“Each entity is responsible to reflect the glory of God; in laymen terms, the leadership models consider an inverted approach to self-discipline and that is to reflect always the best of your ability, honouring the fact that the success of the wall depends upon it.
“The ‘wall’ symbolically represents the organization and its vision and mission.
“Biblical principles have been interwoven in business practices for years. The walls of Jerusalem had been destroyed by fire and the people now desolate. Nehemiah became burdened to do something about it.
“In current economical times, the church or organization may consider their state as their fate and remain not operating to their full capacity; with impractical ministries, that is unchanging and unfruitful.
“Organizations with employees who have become nonproductive ultimately hits their bottom line. The book is designed to help the reader, no matter their voluntary service or occupational title, to self-evaluate and discover their true purpose and guide them to establish a plan on how to positively impact their respective milieu.”
When asked how the ideas outlined in the book have shaped her own approach to leading others, Rev. Prime-Godwin said, “It has been introspective. I remember someone saying to me a long time ago that I was a great leader, and I remember replying, ‘Then why don’t I see anyone following me?’
“It is my belief that leadership’s anchor rests in humility and servitude; until those who serve in leadership grasp these two principles, their leadership will lean on self-centredness, and that is the vein to self-elevation, causing mistrust by the fellowship, the very essence of non-productivity or instability of service.
“I am learning to master the two principles of humility and servitude.”
Rev. Georgette V. Prime-Godwin, who is already at work on The Woman at the Well, her second book, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in organizational leadership and management from Regent University. She graduated from Payne Theological Seminary with a master of divinity degree in pastoral leadership.
