Firefighters Extinguish Blaze In Warwick Home

[Updated] The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to a house fire in the Bulkhead Drive, Warwick area at approximately 8.45pm tonight [Oct 5].

At least two fire appliances along with other fire service vehicles attended the scene of the fire where personnel equipped with breathing apparatus worked to extinguish the blaze.

We understand there were occupants in the house and that they were able to exit the building without any reported injuries.

Update 1.34am Oct 6: Fire Service spokesperson, Sergeant Russann Francis said, “At approximately 8:48 pm on Sunday, October 6th, 2014 the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to a report of a 2-story dwelling involved in fire near Bulkhead Drive, Warwick.

“The Fire Service responded to the incident with 5 fire appliances staffed with 11 firefighters to find the fire confined to the upper level.”

Station Commander on duty, Lieutenant Mark Taylor, stated “upon the arrival of the Fire Service, there was smoke and flames seen on the upper level during our approach.

“Four firefighters dressed in breathing apparatus and equipped with a 1½” hose line began to extinguish the fire. Firefighters confirmed that all persons were out of the home prior to entering the premises to extinguish the flames.”

“The dwelling sustained structural damage and extensive smoke damage throughout. At present the fire is still currently under investigation.”
