Footballer Detre Bell Selected As All-State

February 2, 2015

Bermuda footballer Detre Bell has been selected as an All-State player by the Connecticut Soccer Coaches Association [CSCA], a subsidiary of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America [NSCAA], being honoured at a banquet along with the best players from around the state on January 25, 2015.

It was the fourth major individual honour that Mr. Bell has received this year, along with being selected to the Western New England Preparatory School Soccer Association [WNEPSSA] All-Star and Select Teams, as well as the New England Preparatory School Soccer Association [NEPSSA] Junior All-Star Team.

Mr. Bell has played for North Village and has also for the Valencia team. He was selected to the Bermuda National Team at their inception and has stayed on the roster since, while also serving as the U17 Bermuda National Team goalkeeper.

Mr. Bell has been the number one goalkeeper at South Kent for the past two seasons, helping the team earn several trophies, including last year’s New England Championship. He helped the Cardinals return to the final again this year, only to lose in penalties after a 1-1 draw.

However, he was a major factor in helping the team earn the WNEPSSA regular season title for the eighth time in the last 10 seasons and was named Most Outstanding Goalkeeper in the team’s victorious run to the Sportman’s Cardinal Classic title.

Head coach Owen Finberg said, “Detre is a talented goalkeeper and one with great potential. We are continually pushing him to achieve his best in the classroom and on the field and know that the best is yet to come for Detre.”
