Flying Colours Mountain Bike Race Results

February 8, 2015

The sixth race of the Flying Colours Mountain Bike Race Series was held at Fort Scaur today [Feb 8]. Once again, the winter rain and wind receded enough to give us the sweetest day of 2015 to date.

82 Mountain Bikers braved the revised courses. For the 12 and under, it was a tougher, longer course. For the rest, the shortened course was very tough with the two challenging climbs with little rest between.

In fact, there were rumblings amongst the panting finishers that “someone” should be tarred and feathered for designing such a tough track and then watching everyone else suffer on it. Luckily, no-one had the energy to follow through.

In A Class, neither Dominic nor Matthew raced. Lap one looked awesome with Robin Horsefield leading Neil De Ste Croix and Chequan Richardson. But after lap 2, Neil had fallen off the pace a bit and Chequan moved forward. Robin Horsefield took first, Chequan held second and Neil repeated his third place finish from race 5.

Junior 12 and under males also had their points leaders, Manning Smith and Blake Olivereia absent. Blake was travelling and Manning chose to take on the 13 to 15 age group.

The large fleet took off in a tight scrum but by the first real climb, newcomer Ziani Burgesson had pulled ahead with a few technically sound youths hot on his heels. But after 18 minutes, only 6 year old Gordon Smith was still able to keep him in sight. They held those positions for the finish and Liam Flannery took third.

In 12 and under girls, Megan Hands came first and Liana Medeiros was second but huge props go to both girls who had competed earlier in the day in the National Duathlon Championships where Megan came second in 10 and under and Liana was 7th. GIRL POWER!
