Video: Lambe Scores Winner For Mansfield Town

[Updated with video] Bermuda’s Reggie Lambe proved to be the decisive figure in a match between his Mansfield Town team and Newport County yesterday [March 3], scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 victory for his club.

Lambe’s goal followed after his goal in a 2-1 Mansfield Town win on February 28, as well as his goal in Mansfield Town’s win over Stevenage on February 7.

The club’s match report said, “Mansfield Town picked up three valuable points in their quest for survival in Sky Bet League Two as they defeated Newport County at Rodney Parade.

“Substitute Reggie Lambe was the match-winner as he turned home a cross by Callum Elder in the 87th minute – just moments after ex-Stag Adam Chapman had rattled the woodwork at the other end with a thunderous volley.”

“The Stags made the first substitution of the match when Lambe came on as a like for like switch for Monakana. With five minutes to go, the match hit fever pitch.

“Mansfield then found the breakthrough they were looking for in the 87th minute when a left-footed cross from Elder found Lambe who side-footed his attempt into the back of the net.

“Despite Newport’s best efforts to equalise, the match ended 1-0 and the Stags going home with all three points.”

After the match right-back Lee Beevers, who was making his 100th appearance for Mansfield Town, said, ““It was a great performance from the boys. We set out with a game plan to frustrate them and going it at half-time with a clean-sheet, we did that and it was half the job done.

“We said if we came in at the end of the game with a clean sheet we would win it, which is exactly what we did. Reggie Lambe has come on and scored a fantastic goal at the end.”
