“Laugh Until Your Side Hurts” With Gary Owens
Envy Promotion is set to present comedian Gary Owens on April 9 at the Fairmont Southampton, promising that those in attendance will “laugh until your side hurts.”
The event will be held in the hotel’s amphitheatre, with local comics Nadanja and Eddie G and special guest Eugene Harding also performing. Gates open at 7.00pm and the show gets underway at 8.00pm.
A spokesperson said, “Owen has been entertaining America for more than a decade with his side-splitting comedy. Having performed to sold-out audiences in all the major comedy clubs and theaters across the country, Owen is one of America’s most loved comedians
“He is one of the stars of the Screen Gems comedy “Think Like A Man Too” and the original film “Think Like A Man,” both opening at #1 at the box office. He was last seen in the Universal comedy “Ride Along” with Ice Cube and Kevin Hart. On the small screen, Gary starred last season in TruTV’s funny video/sketch show “Upload” which he hosted with Shaquille O’Neal.
“Owen also starred in three Showtime specials all in the same year; his one-hour comedy special “True Story” was an instant hit and is now a best-selling DVD; he commanded the stage as host of “Shaquille O’Neal Presents: All Star Comedy Jam – Live from Orlando;” and he was a stand-out performer on “Mike Epps Presents: Live From Club Nokia.”
“He has a new, highly-anticipated comedy special, “I Agree With Myself,” airing on Showtime in January 2015.
“Owen had a recurring role as Zach the barber on Tyler Perry’s successful television series “House of Payne.” On the big screen, Owen appeared in the films “Little Man” with The Wayans Brothers and “Daddy Day Care” with Eddie Murphy. He is also recognized around the country for his scene stealing role as “Bearcat” in the MGM film “College.”
“Gary was always the class clown growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio. After high school, he got serious and enlisted in the Navy. It was in the Navy that he honed in on his craft. After only a year of doing stand-up, he was named “Funniest Serviceman in America.”
“Owen had a huge African-American fan base and went on to win the “Funniest Black Comedian in San Diego” contest. In addition, Ebony magazine has proclaimed Gary “Black America’s Favorite White Comedian.”
“Two appearances on the multicultural comedy showcase, “BET’s ComicView,” won him his own one-hour “grandstand” show. At the end of the season he was selected from the year’s four “grandstanders” to be the host.
“In addition to “True Story,” Owen stars in, and produced, two other stand-up comedy DVDs – “Breakin’ Out The Park” and “Urban Legend.” He also starred in “Martin Lawrence Presents: 1st Amendment” on the Starz channel.
“Envy Promotion has brought some of the biggest comedians such as Mike Epps, Tim Witherspoon, and Darryl Hughley and many others to Bermuda.
“Saturday’s event is being held at Southampton Princess Hotel in the Amphitheater. Also performing are Local Comics Nadanja, Eddie G and special guest Eugene Harding. There will also be a musical interlude by croner Jessie Seymour. The event is hosted by Jah. Juggling J will keep patrons dancing between acts. Gates open at 7pm and Showtime is 8pm.”
