Open Mat Bermuda Claim Medals in Florida

Open Mat Bermuda earned five medals at the Pan International Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Kissimmee, Florida.

Organised by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation, the competition ran from Wednesday [March 19] to yesterday.

Georgina Martin won bronze in the master one white belt, middle heavyweight division; Natalie Angeli secured silver in the master three white belt, middleweight division; James Adams claimed silver in the master two blue belt, super-heavyweight division; Leonard Scudder took bronze in the master two purple belt, ultra heavyweight division, and Lonnie Bascome won bronze in the master three brown belt, lightweight division.

Chris Regan, the team’s coach, who competed in the master four black belt, super-heavyweight division, said he was proud of his team’s performances at the top-level event.

“This is the highest level we can compete at in our sport,” Regan told Bernews.

“It’s no mean feat to bring anything back. Any medals at this level, is something to be extremely proud of.

“We’re coming back on a high and looking forward to continuing the competition calendar for the rest of the year.”

Also competing were Ryan Hopkins [male adult belt, middleweight], Jahmali Bridgewater [adult white belt, heavyweight], Noah Vieira [male adult purple, lightweight], Michael Walsh [master four white belt, ultra middleweight], Sydney Mason [female adult blue belt, middle heavyweight], Greg Maybury [master one blue belt, lightweight], and Reina Maypa [adult purple belt, lightweight].
