Armed Robbery At Pink Beach Property Site

May 20, 2016

[Updated] There was a report of armed robbery at the Pink Beach property a short while ago this evening [May 20], the police have just confirmed. Further details are limited at this time, however we will update as able.

Update 6.14pm: Police Media Manager Dwayne Caines said, “At 5.15pm police attended a report of an armed robbery that took place at the property of the former Pink Beach Hotel.

“It appears that one of the managers of the construction site was turning onto the property when he was stopped by two males brandishing what appeared to be a firearm. They made demands of cash, however the man stated he did not have any. They snatched his chain, and left.

“Information suggest that this was a targeted attack,” Mr Caines added. “And police have now commenced an active investigation into the armed robbery.”

“The description given at this juncture is of two males of slim build, aged 18-25, with light complexion, between 5ft 7 and 5ft 9. One suspect was wearing a red hoodie, while the other was wearing all dark clothing.

“Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen two men in the area acting suspiciously or anyone who may have any information on this planning or the execution of this robbery to contact police.”

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact the police on 295-0011 or the anonymous and confidential Crimestoppers hotline on 800 8477.”

      • Loofouy says:

Wow, a little ignorant and bitter are we? Perhaps you should be grateful that murders and crime in general are down. If you are foolish enough to believe that any politician has the power or a magic switch to turn off crime you are a fool.

These fools get away with doing what they do because their family, friends and neighbors that see, hear and know the things that they do pretend they don’t and look the other way.

        • Watching On says:

You are soooooooo correct! And then they talk about being loyal to those who are loyal to them and condone some of the worst behaviour you’ll ever witness. Only when it hits too close to home and their loyalty gets tested then and only then will solutions be found.

          • OBSERVER says:

            TO WATCHING ON:
            Who are THEY?
You have generalized. I wonder why.
Looks like you have your OWN bitterness piece.
            Hhmmmm…..

            • Watching On says:

Looks like I hit too close to home. I was responding to the comment made in the last paragraph by Loofouy – It is funny that you did not commented on that – hence my use of the word “they”.

I have nothing to be bitter about, you are barking up the wrong tree. Maybe you should comment on what Loofouy said. Sorry if you felt targeted. Looks like you know something that the two of us herein mention don’t.

  2. Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

    It’s time bie…K.

I’m with Nelson Hunt on concealed carry licences for real…If your weapon has ballistic registration it’s just like a finger print…If it don’t then YOU become the prey!

    • Black Soil says:

If the “bad guys” think you have a gun, you are MUCH MORE likely to get killed by one. They will shoot first.

      • Nanny Pat says:

And they will usually miss. Drunks and drug addicts usually have rubbish hand-eye coordination and crap reflexes. These wannabes are so unintelligent that they will probably hurt themselves before they hurt an armed man like Mr. Hunt. Level the playing field. Give shop owners guns.

        • Loofouy says:

Armed robberies are done up close. You dont need great hand eye coordination.

However, we have many youths that have been killed by the very people that you describe. Drugged and drunk and many on bikes or in moving cars. Some of these people were the intended victims and some were innocent bystanders. All tragically killed by someone with little concern for others.

        • Lenny Avery says:

Like the guy who shot himself a while back!

      • Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

        Shoot first or think first?

    • bermy says:

Yah that train of thought is working really well in the good ol USA

  3. Liars says:

l would of ran em over and them then put it in reverse!

    • JohnBoy says:

Grammar check: I would have run. Thank you, carry on…

    • Its me again says:

      No you wouldn’t.

You would have done what you were told

      • Liars says:

no i would not have stopped and ran them over k

      • Verly says:

@Its me again, don’t be so quick to say that. People truly are getting fed up. One of these days, these little punks are going to run into the wrong person who is good and ignorant and not so willing to back down…then it’s going to be on!!

        • Loofouy says:

Sadly, yes I agree people are getting fed up and someone is going to snap and test these lazy azz punks. Unfortunately, it may end up with someone innocent getting hurt and killed. Only then, those family and friends that are protecting these idiots will show up and testify about how good they were, and start with the excuses.

          • Verly says:

Oh,yes, they always come up with an excuse. After all, they’re all “good boys” at heart.

      • Liars says:

It sounds like “Its me again” is defending these criminals in multiple articles on armed robberies.

        What does a comment like;

        “No you wouldn’t.

You would have done what you were told” supposed to mean?

Somebody should go back and look into all the armed robberies articles on Bernews like I have and notice how this person comments on them. IP Check?

  4. Wahoo says:

Catch’em, beat’em and take away thier passports.

    • Its me again says:

      Beat them….

Great look for human rights. We would be a world leader in Human Rights if you had your way.

      • Zevon says:

Suddenly you’re interested in human rights. Let’s make sure we treat armed robbers nicely. Can’t have them getting offended can we.

      • wahoo says:

They abadoned thier rights when they threatened mine. Your soft approach to capital punishment is partly why we are in the state that we are in now.

      • Verly says:

It’s bleeding heart liberals like you that are stepping back and letting these little brats ruin our island. Which PLP politician made that “softly, softly” comment? Well look where that got us. Maybe if we had nipped it in the bud way back then, things wouldn’t have spiralled downhill over the years eh?

        • Its me again says:

          Constitution much?

          • Zevon says:

Soft on crme. Defending armed robbers. Be kind to crimnals. Tyoical.

        • bda guy says:

and the OBA is not doing any better

          • Zevon says:

Except that serious crime has declined nder the oba.

        • Wayne says:

Verify…you are talking to hear yourself!

When Colonel Burch took the stance that he wants to KICK IN the doors of EVERY known gang affiliate, it was people like YOU who complained about the PLP’s strong arm and bullying tactics!

If YOUR Government didn’t take reprimand and punishment out of schools and the Courts we wouldn’t be in this position. it was YOUR Government that created the wall sitters, handed drug “distribution rights” by closing down the Technical Institute which would have fostered very productive and positive Black role models.

Yeah, I know why…too many Black men were graduating and posing serious economic threat to your Front Street UPB voting cronies you methodically created “these little brats” to ruin our islands through the generations up until now.

So blame YOUR Government for letting these little brats ruin our island!!!

          • What is Your answer says:

So if Col Burch wanted to do it, why didn’t he! He had the support of the PLP didn’t he, or did he?

If c\losing the Technical School was such a bad idea, why didn’t the PLP open it again. They had 14 years to do it. If you think the reason these punks do what they do because the technical school was closed you yourself are part of the problem. Have you every taken a walk through Cedarbridge and Berkeley. If you had you wouldn’t be making these ignorant comments. These kinds have 10X more opportunities including subjects offered at the tech schools than you and I ever had.

Most of these punks DO NOT WANT TO BE IN SCHOOL PERIOD. Some come from very respectable families, some were great students, some went to church, some had everything money could buy. For whatever reason (usually drugs) they CHOOSE to not to work, or show up at work regularly, to hang out on the docks.

For every excuse you can make for these sad excuses for human beings, there are examples of Bermudians that have done very well. I know many Bermudians that had no father, mother (or both) or no money, or were abused and so on – and have become honest and productive citizens.

These fools have made a conscious choice to do what they are doing. Stop being part of the problem and making excuses.

            • What is Your answer says:

By the way Wayne. The OBA is a new party. I assume you are referring to the UBP. If yes, perhaps you should talk to YOUR PARTY. You do realize that the two last UBP leaders were never part of the OBA and are NOW PLP members.

      • Loofouy says:

Don’t beat em. Make small cuts on their scrotums and lower them in and out of fish tankes filled with Pirannah

    • bda guy says:

Catch them and take them deepsea fishing

  5. Kangoocar says:

Once we come to terms with the fact that our local jurors continuesly let off hardened criminals, and even if the guilty are convicted, the judges hand out slap on the wrist sentences, expect more escalation of this type of dispicable behavior!!! The time has long past to hire FORIEGN jurors and judges who will hand out sentences that actually meet the crime!!! I suggest we make it mandatory, upon the age of 12 yrs old, every Bermudian be sat down and made to watch the utube vidieo of criminals in the Muslim countries of Saudia Arabia for instance that are caught stealing!! A very simple search and you can all easily find the videos, if you watch it once, I gaurentee you will agree, that this type of behavior will stop instantly!!! Chopping of the hands starting with the pain of the fingers going first, will instantly take care of any future problems!!!

  6. no name says:

should have rammed them and killed them…Bermuda would have given you a Medal and these little b@$t@rd$ would have had a clear message sent to them, enough is enough…fight back and take back this island, remove all scum.

  7. Oh,I see now says:

If this continues someone will lose a son real soon and the only people crying for him will be his mama, baby mama and mamas mama……..bloody putz

  8. Coffee says:

Mean while the new minister of national security , Mr.Baron , was busy picking his nose in the vanity mirror !

    • Zevon says:

What are you, like ten years old?

      • Coffee says:

But even a ten year old would arrive at the exact same conclusion .

    • Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

      And what we’re you doing?

  9. Hogfish says:

Looking forward to the day when one of these idiots receives a police fired bullet!!!!!

    • M. T. Pockets says:

That’s just a matter of time.

      • Nanny Pat says:

Do our police even have bullets? My fear is that they would wet themselves before having the courage to fire their gun.

    • Verly says:

The police aren’t going to shoot anybody. They aren’t permitted to even shoot a dog, much less a human. That’s the truth.

  10. Cranjis McBasketball says:

    Mission report December 16 1991

  11. Triangle Drifter says:

I guess you don’t need to be very smart to be a crook. What were they looking for? Payroll? It was after 5. Pay would have been done long before. Who gets paid in cash anyway? Were they expecting to cash cheques? Who carries any sizable amount of cash around on them these days anyway?

    Dumb, dumb, dumb.

    • Terry says:

      Disagree.
There still are people doing weekly ‘hustles’ and daily that are paid in cash.
      Fact.

    • Loofouy says:

Triangle Drifter….many construction employers now pay at 5pm on a Friday because when they pay sooner, many don’t come back after lunch.

Furthermore many pay cash only or cash for overtime. Why else do you ask?:

      a) to avoid paying any more payroll tax, vacation pay -than they have to. Two sets of books for payroll.
      b) some employees work paycheck to paycheck and believe it or not don’t have an active account
      c) some employees ask to be paid in cash because they owe money for outstanding debt, child support, courts and don’t want any money they make to be garnished by court order.
      d) the only way to pay staff that may be working illegally.

I am not suggesting that this employer was doing this, merely replying to Triangle Drifter. The practice of paying cash is far more common than you might think.

      • Triangle Drifter says:

        Responses accepted. Logical.

      • Derek says:

Thanks for a very informative update. Things haven’t changed much in the 35 years since I worked in construction and ran the payroll to the bank and back. I would say this situation very much looks like an insider deal. Either the perpetrators are prior employees and knew how things worked or someone working at the site set it up.

Sadly it makes one wonder what is happening with all the other armed robberies.
