Celebrity Summit Returns With Injured Passenger

July 22, 2016

Officials on board the Celebrity Summit cruise ship which departed Bermuda earlier this evening made the decision to return to the island tonight [July 22] after a passenger was injured.

Pilot boat St. David rendezvoused with the ship at approximately 9.30pm in the waters off the east end to disembark the injured man. The gentleman’s wife accompanied him back to shore along with a ship’s doctor. Bernews unofficially understands the man was hurt in a fall which resulted in facial injuries.

The Pilot boat returned to Ordnance Island where an awaiting ambulance transported the man to King Edward Memorial Hospital for treatment. The Celebrity Summit continued on its journey to Cape Liberty Cruise Port in Bayonne, New Jersey.

Is it my imagination or what? Everytime a cruise ship comes to Bermuda, there is a sick or injured passenger on board that has to be transfered to KEMH. I wonder if this happens to all the cruise ships that go to other destinations.

    Very strange.

It happens a lot. Thousands of people in one spot. Someone is bound to get sick or hurt. You see ambulances outside the cruise ship terminal a good bit when they arrive.
