Bermuda Civic Ballet Welcomes Sam Archer
The Bermuda Civic Ballet will welcome Sam Archer to participate in Summer Selections 2016, which is set to be held on August 5 and August 6 at the Earl Cameron Theatre in City Hall.
A spokesperson said, “There can hardly be anyone who enjoys ballet and modern dance who has not heard of the greatest innovative choreographer of the modern day, recently knighted Sir Matthew Bourne.
“With his company, New Adventures, he has reinvented Swan Lake, Edward Scissorhands, Cinderella, Carmen as The Car Man, and a multitude of other productions which have toured all over the world, and the cast for his latest show, The Red Shoes, based on the 1940s film which made a star of Moira Shearer, has just been announced.”
Sam Archer as Edward Scissorhands:
“It’s with great excitement, therefore, that the Bermuda Civic Ballet welcomes one of Sir Matthew’s biggest stars, Sam Archer, to participate in Summer Selections 2016, to be held on August 5th and 6th at the Earl Cameron Theatre in City Hall.
“Sam, who created the role of Edward Scissorhands and played Ralph in Lord of the Flies at Sadlers Wells and on the UK tour, has a body of work which stretches from The Prince in Swan Lake and Angelo in The Car Man to Badger in The Wind in the Willows. He is also an actor, his appearances including Charlie Paddock in Chariots of Fire at the Hamstead Theatre, Mr Selfridge, Muppets Most Wanted and the upcoming Humans Series 2.
“Sam is married to the former Steph Elstob, who danced an enchanting Swanhilda for Civic in Coppélia a few years ago and is delighted to be back and to share Tobacco Bay with her husband.”
“Steph divides her career between dancing [Edward Scissorhands for Matthew Bourne, La Bohème] and acting [BBC’s The Hour, Snow White and the Huntsman for Universal Pictures, Disney’s new Beauty and the Beast], while fitting in modelling for firms like Van Cleef and Arpels.
“Together Sam and Steph took a special course last year which makes them qualified teachers of Matthew Bourne choreography, and they are putting this into practice with the young dancers who form Civic’s corps de ballet.
“For their performances they have chosen a tender pas de deux from The Car Man [Angelo and Rita], and three pieces melded into one from Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty.”
“The performances start at 8.00pm, August 5th & 6th, and tickets are priced at $40 for adults, $30 for seniors, and $20 for students under 18.”
Tickets can be ordered online at ptix.bm or by phone on 278-1500. The ticket outlet is located on the second floor, Innovation House, 46 Reid Street, open from 9.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.
