An animated series on life in Bermuda is coming soon.

Tashel Bean, an animator and graphic artist, has created an animated series entitled the Adventures of Raz. The animated cartoon sees Raz, who is the leader of the loquat hunters and his friends, protect Loquat Island. Raz can be seen in the video travelling around the island on his moped.

Mr Bean told Bernews he has always been into animation. “The idea of doing a cartoon has been floating around in my mind for a couple of years. I went to school for film, and I love storytelling. My skill level finally matched my creativity and now is as good a time as ever to do this.”

As you might suspect, Mr Bean loves loquats. The theme of loquats is also Bermudian, and he wanted to ensure he infused his animation with local culture.

“I wanted to make something that wouldn’t be made anywhere else,” he said. “I wanted to fill it with Bermudian iconography and use our culture as a backdrop.”

Mr Bean voices the title character Raz but also has a team of others who voice the others in the videos. Part of the inspiration for Raz is Super Mario.

“He is that nice and good character that kids can look up to,” Mr Bean said. “He is a good superhero. A little bit of Spiderman and a little bit of me. My playful side is in there. Since I was born in the 90s and I watched a lot of late 90s and early 2000 cartoons, he has that attitude a lot of those characters have.”

Mr Bean said from concept to completion, and it took him just under three weeks to make it. Full episodes will run for approximately 11 minutes. The pilot episode will be completed by the end of June and be available to be viewed by early August or the last part of July.

He is keeping it close to his chest where the pilot will episode, but an announcement will be forthcoming when he has all the details ironed out.
