Jeanne Atherden Resigns As OBA Party Leader

September 21, 2018

“I have submitted my resignation and have stepped down as Party Leader effective September 20,” Jeanne Atherden has confirmed, adding that “it was an honour to be elected and serve as the leader of the One Bermuda Alliance.”

Ms Atherden’s resignation follows after unofficial information suggests that eight of the eleven elected OBA MPs held a meeting and expressed ‘no confidence’ in Ms Atherden’s leadership earlier this week.

“Now where do we go from here,” Ms Atherden said. “Under the OBA Constitution, if the Party Leader resigns, there must now be an election for a new leader. The Party Chairperson will, in due course, open up nominations and commence the selection process.”

Message from Jeanne AtherdeN Resign Sept 21 2018

In a letter just sent to OBA members, Ms Atherden said, “As many of you are by now aware by recent news headlines, I have submitted my resignation and have stepped down as Party Leader effective September 20, 2018.

“When I was elected in November 2017. I indicated that I believe in the OBA, our values and the principles on which we stand. I identified the area that we needed to work on together if we intended to rebuild the party and reconnect with the people of Bermuda. I said then that it would take hard work but If we had the will we had the power. Nothing has changed. I believed that then and I believe that now – “If we have the will we have the power”!

“Although I am stepping down, the work that I identified is not yet done. We cannot especially now step back. We must all continue our efforts to unite the party and must all work toward common identified goals and not just sit back and leave it up to the faithful few or wait for things to fail. It is by harnessing our individual strengths that we make the party stronger.

“We must continue to develop an OBA that projects fairness and integrity, an OBA which promotes social and economic equality; an OBA which is inclusive and ensures the voices of women and our younger members are heard. These should not just be slogans.

“By our actions, we must demonstrate that we are prepared to sacrifice our individual agendas for the good of our principles and our country. We must show the community that we don’t represent, specific segments or biases but that we speak for all of Bermuda. We are One Bermuda!

“Now where do we go from here? Under the OBA Constitution, if the Party Leader resigns, there must now be an election for a new leader. The Party Chairperson will, in due course, open up nominations and commence the selection process.

“This is an important election for the OBA. It will give members the opportunity to get behind a leader who can best strengthen and unite the party and lead us according to our values and principles to represent all of Bermuda as an opposition party and government in waiting. This new leader will prepare us for and lead us into the next election.

“It was an honour to be elected and serve as the leader of the One Bermuda Alliance. Now, as I step down, it is important that all members voices are heard during our process of selecting our new leader and we stand together as One!”

“Well Mark Bean is a Certified Pilot I think that qualifies him more so.”

That’s like saying someone who picks their nose is qualified to be s surgeon.

Just what I’d expect from OJ, proud of its stupidity.

    • Wake up Bie says:

You said the same thing when Dunkley kicked Craig to the curb to become leader. Now he left you with 11 seats.

  6. Me says:

Should be Michael Dunkley resigning he is still lurking about if he is anywhere near the future of the OBA it is doomed forever

    • Wahoo says:

Interesting that some people want to see Dunkley leave. Do you view him as a threat to the plp? I think he a bright man perfectly suited to politics probably more so than anyone Obama or plp.

  7. LaV says:

Bermuda is doomed forever, because of the plp and their racist followers.
