Hospitals Added To No-Fly Zones For Drones
As of today [July 24], the Bermuda Civil Aviation Authority [BCAA] have issued new Directions [PDF here] in accordance with the Air Navigation [Overseas Territories] Order under Article 68 to include restricted fly zones over King Edward Memorial Hospital and the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute.

A spokesperson said, “The Directions were put in place for purposes of confidentiality, safety and security. Any person who contravenes, permits the contravention of, or fails to comply with the Directions commits an offence under Article 68(4) of the Order, and is punishable on summary conviction of a fine not exceeding $4,000.
Peter Adhemar, Director of Operations at BCAA commented, “The King Edward Memorial Hospital and Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute join the existing no-fly zones for small unmanned aircraft, which include L.F Wade International Airport, Westgate and Prospect Police Headquarters.
“These additions are a continuation of our approach to tackling safety and security challenges regarding drones in the local airspace.
“If anyone has a question about the rules and regulations of flying a drone privately or commercially in Bermuda they should refer to the guidelines on BCAA’s website, or reach out to our team.”
The spokesperson said, “The restrictions apply to unmanned aircraft (drones), microlights, gliders, airships and balloons and the no-fly zones are summarised below:
- A quadrilateral encompassing airspace surrounding the King Edward Memorial Hospital within 32°17’37.6″N 64°46’05.7″W; 32°17’27.5″N 64°45’57.8″W; 32°17’33.3″N 64°45’50.6″W; 32°17’37.0″N 64°45’53.9″W
- A quadrilateral encompassing airspace surrounding the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute within 32°18’26.2″N 64°44’51.1″W; 32°18’28.8″N 64°44’44.6″W; 32°18’22.0″N 64°44’40.4″W; 32°18’20.3″N 64°44’46.1″W
