Bermuda Track Athletes: Medals & New Record
Bermuda track athletes Chayse Tanner, Nathan Armstrong, Isabelle Dutranoit, and Nirobi Mills-Smith had strong performances as they recently competed in their respective track and field events.
Bermuda National Athletics Association President Donna Raynor said, “We have had another fantastic weekend as our athletes prepare for the upcoming Carifta Games. We had a team that traveled to Barbados and had some fantastic performances, bringing back several medals. Several athletes reached the finals in their events.
“Chayse Tanner won the long jump in Barbados meet in a leap of 6.73m, which qualified him for the U17 boys long jump with the standard being 6.60.
“Nathan Armstrong competed in the NJ State Group 1 Indoor Track meet where he placed third in the 1600m with a time of 4.05 at the 1500m, with the Carifta standard being 4.12 with his final time of 4.23.89 a PB placing third overall. He then competed in the 3200 in a time of 9.35.25 another PB, placing third overall; this moves him onto the Championship event.
“Isabelle Dutranoit competed in the ACC Indoor Championships and placed 10th in her heat and 23rd overall, breaking her own national Bermuda record in the 3000m in a time of 9.45.62.
“Nirobi Mills-Smith, competing in an indoor meet in the United Kingdom, placed fourth in the 800m in a time of 1.57.83, representing his club Team Bath AC close to the qualifying time of 1.55.50.
“This is all boding well for Bermuda as our athletes are getting the opportunity to compete overseas despite the track not being available, and these athletes are performing well.”
