February 22, 2010

chris estwanik bermuda runnerThe Ed Sherlock 5 Mile Run & Walk held on Sunday February 21 was dominated by the Estwanik family.

Winning the overall men’s was Chris Estwanik, with his wife Ashley the first female across the finish line placing an impressive 3rd overall.

Another Estwanik came along for the race and technically speaking crossed the line first; Chris Estwanik ran the entire race pushing the couple’s baby.

Current Butterfield and Vallis 5K champion Stephen Allan came in 2nd, splicing between the husband, wife and baby trio.

Dominant runners on the local circuit, Chris and Ashley Estwanik made history in 2008 by becoming the first husband and wife to win the half marathon titles in the same year. Mr. Estwanik added the proverbial icing on the cake by setting a new May 24th record at 1:08.25, finishing over four minutes ahead of the second placer.

“Unoffical Winners” include Quinton Mallory and George Jones who both competed at age 72, 10 year old Sean Tucker and 11 year old Zakiyyah Showers who finished a very impressive 13th overall.

Organized by Swan’s Running Club, the event is named after legendary runner Ed Sherlock, a multiple May 24th champion who is now in his late 70′s.
