Bermuda to Host Telethon to Assist Haiti

After the success of both MTV and BET’s telethon’s for Haiti, Bermuda is to follow suit – in a smaller style of course. Premier Dr. Ewart Brown formed a coalition of Bermudians from all three political parties to support and promote a special telethon. Entitled ‘To Haiti With Love’, the telethon organizers hope to raise $100,000 for three charities working in the Caribbean nation;

  • Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency [CARICOM]
  • The Salvation Army
  • Feed My Lambs, run by Bermudian Phillip Rego

West Indian Association director Susan Moore-Williams is organising the event, which will air March 8 from 7.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. on VSB Channel 11 and CITV Channel 2.

The island nation of Haiti was struck by a 7.0 earthquake on January 12, 2010. As of Feb. 12, the Haitian Government estimates that between 217,000 and 230,000 people have been killed, an estimated 300,000 injured, and an estimated 1,000,000 homeless.
