Photos & Videos: 2010 Earth Hour Bermuda

March 28, 2010

On Sat, March 27th from 8:30pm to 9:30pm over 100 countries pledged to turn off their lights for Earth Hour, and Bermuda was amongst them. Local environmental group Greenrock hosted a free event to celebrate Earth Hour on Saturday evening at Pier 6 Shed on Front Street.

There was entertainment by the Menuhin Foundation, African dancers and drummers, Capoeria display and more. There were food vendors, with the Ethiopian vegetarian food proving to be immensely popular. Flashlights were given out at the door, and candles were in abundance.

Speakers included President of Greenrock Andrew Vaucrosson, Mayor of Hamilton Charles Gosling and US Consul Grace Shelton.

The US Consul encouraged people to cut back on energy use every day, and spoke of “green diplomacy”, saying it started with American foreign policy. She went on to say that:

It begins with accepting that climate change is more then a scientific phenomenon. It is a political challenge, it is an economic force, it is a security threat and a moral imperative.
