Tyrone Smith: 25th at 2010 World Championships

One of Bermuda’s top track and field athletes recently competed at the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Doha, Qatar. Tyrone Smith competed in the men’s long jump, placing 25th in the preliminary session. Only the top eight advance to the finals.

Mr. Smith has previously competed at the World Indoor Championships, and also represented Bermuda at the 2008 Olympic Games. His personal best is 8.03 metres, which is the Bermuda National Record.

The 3 time NCAA Division II All-American holds the school record in both the both the indoor and outdoor long jump. at the University of Missouri-Rolla. He is a 3 time MVP recipient at the school, and the school’s 2006 Athlete of the Year. Below is a super quick eight second video of Mr. Smith jumping 7.95:

Bermuda has claimed one Gold Medal at the World Indoor Championships, by virtue of triple jumper Brian Wellman’s 1995 win in Barcelona, Spain.
