armed robbery picNot one, but two people were the victims of gun toting thieves over the holiday weekend. Both robberies occurred in the Devonshire Parish, and fortunately both victims were unhurt.

At around 12:15am on May 24, a 31 year old Devonshire man was standing outside his home [on North Shore Road in Devonshire in the vicinity of Sea View Gym] using his Blackberry cell phone when he was approached by three men, one carrying a gun. The suspects took the man’s BlackBerry and ran away, heading up Tribe Lane.

The suspects are described as three slim built young men, one wearing a white or light coloured jacket, one wearing a dark coloured T-shirt and one wearing a dark coloured leather type jacket.

The second armed robbery occurred around 11:40pm on Saturday May 22, when a 30 year old Sandys Parish taxi driver was robbed at gunpoint. He was in the Prospect, Devonshire area to pick up a fare when he was flagged down by a female. Two men then approached the taxi, one brandishing a gun. The suspects forced the taxi driver to out of the vehicle and told him to empty his pockets. The three suspects escaped with a quantity of cash.

A taxi driver was previously robbed at gunpoint in March, and this is also the second robbery to have had a female involved this month, following the robbery of a would-be Good Samaritan.

The first suspect is described as a heavy set black woman, 5’9” tall with short hair wearing what is believed to be a green sweat jacket; she is believed to be 18-25 years old. The second suspect is described as a skinny black man, approximately 5’6” tall wearing dark coloured clothes; he is believed to be 17-25 years old. The third suspect is described as a skinny black man, approximately 5’7” tall wearing dark coloured clothes; he is also believed to be 17-25 years old. A 19 year old Pembroke man was arrested in connection with this incident and subsequently released on Police bail.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to both these incidents or anyone with any information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011 or the independent 24 hour confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477.
