Cricketer’s Arm Slashed During Argument

July 21, 2010

george o brianRight arm fast bowler George O’Brien [pictured] received a slash to the arm, with unofficial reports saying that Mr O’Brien may have received the injury after he had stepped up in an effort to prevent a man acting inappropriately in front of children.

The Police stated that around 8:30pm on Monday July 20, Police responded to a reported disturbance at a Mount Road, St. George’s residence. They further said that it appears that the victim was involved in an argument with another man, who was known to him, who proceeded to assault him with a “bladed article”.

Unofficial reports coming in suggest that a man was wielding a machete, which Mr O’Brien objected to as there were children present. Reports go on to suggest that Mr O’Brien approached the man asking him to refrain from certain actions in front of the children, and the arguement ensued.

The 25 year old cricketer, who has represented Bermuda internationally and may miss playing in Cup Match due to the injury, sustained a laceration to his arm and was taken to the Lamb Foggo Urgent Care Centre for treatment, before being taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for further treatment. Bernews understands a photo of the wound is making the Blackberry and email “rounds.”

The Police state that inquiries into this incident are underway.

Was the attacker from Somerset by any chance? Trying to sabotage St. George’s for Cupmatch?

Seriously though, I hope his arm heals up okay, although I doubt he’ll be playing cricket any time soon. Sounds like he was trying to do the right thing though.
