Premier Meets Kissinger At FIFA World Cup
Premier Dr Ewart Brown, who is presently in South Africa attending the FIFA World Cup, met former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger at the pre-game VIP reception prior to the Uruguay-Holland semi-final game taking place today [July 6] in Cape Town.
87 year old Henry Kissinger is a German-born American political scientist who fled Germany in 1938 due to Nazi persecution. He went on to rise to prominence; becoming National Security Advisor and Secretary of State in the administrations of Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford.
Mr. Kissinger is said to have played a dominant role in United States foreign policy between 1969 and 1977; and is best known for the significant relaxation in US -Soviet tensions, the 1971 talks with Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai, and for helping to establish a ceasefire and US withdrawal from Vietnam, for which he was awarded the 1973 Nobel Peace Prize.
The Premier, along with his wife Wanda Henton-Brown, traveled to South Africa at their own expense to enjoy the event. A number of other Bermudians traveled to South Africa, including Larry Mussenden who is serving as Chairman of FIFA’s Appeal Committe, and David Sabir who is serving on FIFA’s Security Committee.
