Bob and Cookie Burrier from Newburyport Massachusetts have visited the island five times, and loved it so much they penned a song about Bermuda. Mr Burrier started writing music and performing at the age of 42 and had a four piece band. In 2004 the band broke up due to ill health, however Mr Burrier continues to perform for charitable events.
The couple, who have three children and six grandchildren, made their first trip to Bermuda on cruise for their 25th anniversary. They have since taken four more cruises to the island, and are booked to take their 6th cruise here in June 2011 to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary.
The song begins with the lyrics “Hooray, we`re on the island of Bermuda, been waiting so long we are finally here. Clap your hands for the island of the Bermuda, a charming place.“
