Report of “Weapon” At Cruise Terminal
Around 2:50pm today [Aug 3], Police state that they received information of the presence of a possible weapon at the cruise ship terminal at Penno’s Wharf in St. George’s.
The Police say that efforts were made to “locate an individual that was believed to be off the cruise ship” as well as what the Police term the “item in question.” Bernews unofficially understands the weapon that was reported to be at the terminal may possibly be a firearm.
The search resulted in a delay in some passengers being transported back to the Veendam cruise ship by the tender, with dozens of passengers being delayed. One individual off the cruise ship is assisting Police with their inquiries.
The ‘Veendam’ is scheduled to make 24 calls to Bermuda in 2010, tendering at Murray’s Anchorage on Tuesdays before docking in Hamilton from Wednesdays – Fridays.
The matter is being investigated by the Serious Crime Unit who are being assisted by officers from Southside Police Station as well as other units within the Bermuda Police Service. Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 295-0011.
