Faster Internet Speeds Arriving On Island

1020206_fastest_writer_on_the_worldOn island internet speeds have received a boost lately, as locals now have the option to upgrade to an 8MB service, with the potential of a 12MB service to be launched in the future.

North Rock was the first internet provider on the island to offer 8MB service after Bermuda CableVision announced the launch of new data speeds up to 8MB [raising from their prior 4MB] on September 7th of this year.

Cable internet is the fastest access provider on island, with BTC DSL presently topping out at 6MB. Northrock list monthly costs at $129.95 for 6MB and $154.95 for 8MB. Adding in CableVision’s $55 per month for 8MB brings the top cost for 8MB – the fastest residential speed presently available on island – to $209.95 per month.

FKB Transact said they plan to offer 8MB “very soon”, while a Logic telephone rep said they will also likely be offering the increased speed however could not confirm the expected date as of yet.

In addition, CableVision has recently asked the Telecommunications Commission to allow them to offer 12MB high speed data service, and the island could possibly see another provider in the future as TeleBermuda International [TBI] wish to enter the market, and have been seeking approval from the Telecommunications Commission to offer residential ISP service.
